Within the balance of Cornerstone Montessori School’s carefully planned curriculum and environment, children will foster self-confidence and a sense of community.  The School will encourage each child’s innate social, physical, and intellectual capacities.  To support the holistic Montessori education method, children at Cornerstone Montessori School will participate in a number of artistic and academic activities.  Children will experience their early education through natural, sensory-rich exploration of the surrounding world.

PRESCHOOL

In the School’s preschool program, children will be offered extensive opportunities to explore and to discover, to question and to experiment.  One of its goals will be to instill curiosity and a passion for learning.  Classrooms will be designed to offer the Montessori learning system.  Each classroom will be equipped with learning centers in such subjects as art, language, sensorial, math and science, music and movement, dramatic play, and practical life skills.  The Montessori Method lends itself to supporting independent exploration and discovery with guidance by a certified Montessori teacher.  These materials will be carefully chosen to help the children to understand the concepts of size, measurement, quantity, weight, language, and many other scientific concepts.  The School will also offer active exploration of paint using various mediums such as oil and pastels, water, and mud.  Children are involved in negotiating and contributing to solutions and classroom agreements.  The classroom and routines will be carefully planned to provide safety and predictability.  The preschool curriculum goals are as follows:

  • Language/writing and pre-reading
  • Mathematics
  • Social studies
  • Science
  • Art/construction
  • Music/movement
  • Spanish
  •  Large motor
  • Life skills
  • Self care/environment care
  • Inclusion

KINDERGARTEN

Cornerstone Montessori School’s kindergarten program focuses on several of the same areas of development as previous programs, with an emphasis on more complex situations and activities.  The curriculum prepares students for their continued education outside of Montessori and in the world in general.  However, the program retains its strong focus on self-help, mental and emotional strength, pluralism, and independence.  The following list demonstrates the general areas of enrichment for Cornerstone Montessori School’s kindergarten students:

  • Reading
  • Writing
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Physical education
  • Social studies
  • Music/movement
  • Spanish
  • Social and practical life skills
